Quvenzhané Wallis, the star of Annie, checks in about singing her fave songs from the movie, dancing and meeting Beyoncé. Hang out with us as be go BTS (behind the scenes) with the 11-year-old star. Annie hits theaters Dec. 19th.
On people mispronouncing her name:
If they keep trying they’ll get it. I don’t like when they do it on purpose. They say the ending wrong because there’s an accent on the E—and they try to get all French.
On her fave Annie songs:
I like singing “Tomorrow” and “Hard Knock Life.” It was fun because I watched [Annie] before we did it, so I knew the songs and the lyrics.
On dancing:
Dancing is not something that I really do for a talent. I just clown around with my brothers and dance with them. When they gave me dance class I really enjoyed it and it wasn’t as hard as you would think.
On being fierce, like Hush Puppy from Beasts of the Southern Wild:
There are a lot of ways that I describe myself… Sometimes I’m [fierce like Hushpuppy]. I wouldn’t say that I’m totally fearless. I do have fears. I’m afraid of sharks and snakes—even though I touched a snake once when I was wearing gloves.
On going after your dreams:
You have to be confident about yourself and you have to believe in yourself, even if you feel really silly about what you’re doing. Just go along with it. Keep trying you’ll get what you want.
On getting glammed up for appearances:
It gets a little bit boring getting my hair done [for events]. If I have my phone or my DS with me, it isn’t that boring. I do like sitting in the makeup chair and getting my nails done too.
On meeting Queen Bey:
I was really excited! Sometimes when I go to sleep I watch her videos. It was really nice to meet [Beyoncé] and her daughter.
I love the fact that she fights for her name. Good stuff
We can relate, right?!
