Going to the DMV can be a pain in the you know what with the long lines, tons of forms and folks who woke up on the wrong side of the bat cave. Just another day at the DMV? Not!
Now imagine how horrible things would be if you went there and Ms. Kind DMV Lady punched in your social security number, gave you an ugly side and announced that you can’t get your driver’s license because you’re an undocumented citizen.
Whaaat?
Yeah, it actually happened, or something like it actually happened, to writer Elaine Low, and now she and director Daniel Hsia will premiere Annie Undocumented (based on Low’s story) in NYC next month.
The new eight-episode web series stars the adorable Nikki SooHoo (Crush, The Lovely Bones) and airs later this year.
Given the more than 700,000 undocumented kids younger than 18 in U.S., the creators and cast hope Annie Undocumented promotes awareness and compassion, but more important, sparks a much-needed conversation about this important issue.
