This Is Why The #FireChallenge Is Not Hot

JGVU8eI get it.

The instant fame tied to social media is addictive. Post a pic and get 50 “likes” or do a crazy challenge and get 100,000 “likes” on YouTube or Facebook and have people share it.

The next thing you know, your vid goes viral. You’re an instant celebrity.

I get it.

Confession: I’ve laughed at clips of some of these challenges, like the bacon soda and vinegar one.

But I’m lost when it comes to dosing your body in rubbing alcohol and setting your chest ablaze for this #FireChallenge.

Do you ever wonder what happens to the person after this challenge?

Second degree burns.

Maybe third degree burns.

Blisters.

Scars.

Yeah, that just doesn’t seem funny to me—or worth it for a few hundred likes.

Not when teens who’ve been burned in house fires, from an outdoor grill or even from hot oil on a stove, would give anything not to live with the daily reminder of someone else’s mistake.

Not when people like burn survivor Dave Hammer exist in the world.

A fire killed his sister and left him with third degree burns over sixty percent of his body.

I’ll stop here. Watch the video. Then tell me if this #FireChallenge still seems funny.
